Ms. Stitt has established herself as an expert in neuro and cardiothoracic nursing care. She currently serves as a registered nurse in the neuro intensive care unit (ICU) at OU Health, the state’s major academic and trauma center. In this role since 2026, Ms. Stitt is responsible for monitoring blood pressure, neurological status, and patient conditions to ensure timely interventions and rapid response to changes. She administers medications and treatments accurately while acting quickly in urgent or critical situations. Her approach prioritizes patient satisfaction by ensuring patients and families feel comfortable, supported and cared for throughout treatment.
Communicating compassionately with patients and families to address concerns and improve overall care experiences is central to Ms. Stitt’s practice. She strives to deliver patient-centered nursing care while balancing medical treatment needs with emotional support and comfort measures. Ms. Stitt’s expertise extends across multiple intensive care units at OU Health. In addition to her primary work in the neuro ICU, where she focuses on stroke treatment, post-surgical neurological care and seizure management, she regularly takes overtime shifts in trauma, surgical and cardiac ICUs. This broad exposure allows Ms. Stitt to maintain proficiency in both neuro and cardiothoracic specialties.
Taking pride in precepting new nurses, Ms. Stitt enjoys sharing her knowledge through teaching and mentorship. She refers to her personal study materials as her “ICU bible,” which she brings to work nightly both for her own reference and to assist colleagues preparing for certification exams or clinical challenges.
Ms. Stitt began her nursing career at Ascension St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Starting in July 2024 as a registered nurse on the cardiothoracic step-down unit, she quickly demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication. By May 2025, she advanced to the cardiothoracic ICU, where she specialized in managing patients after open-heart surgeries. Ms. Stitt’s responsibilities included performing assessments and stabilizing patients with critical care medications while recognizing the interconnected nature of cardiac and pulmonary complications, such as pneumothorax or trauma-related issues.
In preparation for her future, Ms. Stitt earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma, in 2024. Returning to academia after several years as a stay-at-home mother required determination and resilience, qualities that have proven invaluable throughout her professional life. In addition to her academic degree, Ms. Stitt holds advanced cardiac life support certification and basic life support certification. These credentials are vital for providing high-quality critical care in intensive settings.
A professional journey distinguished by her unwavering commitment to education and lifelong learning, Ms. Stitt is an active member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Civic engagement is another cornerstone of her life outside of direct patient care. Several years ago, Ms. Stitt began practicing extreme couponing, a skill she mastered by sourcing coupons online, to collect hygiene products and other essentials for donation to local shelters, such as Tulsa Day Center and John 3:16 Mission in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has assembled goodie bags filled with these items for distribution among homeless individuals and veterans near those shelters.
Throughout her career, Ms. Stitt has learned that resilience is essential in nursing. Her headstrong nature has enabled her to persevere through rigorous academic challenges and the demanding environment of the ICU. Ms. Stitt dedicates time daily to studying pharmacology during long commutes, reinforcing her belief that education does not end with graduation but continues throughout a nurse’s career.
During her tenure at Ascension St. John Medical Center, Ms. Stitt was nominated for the Daisy Award after only six months of nursing practice, a testament to her outstanding patient care and professionalism. This recognition remains one of her most notable achievements early in her career.
Ms. Stitt attributes much of her success to the foundation laid by her family. Growing up with a father who was a nurse instilled an early appreciation for healthcare professions. Although she initially considered medical school, she ultimately found nursing more aligned with her strengths due to its emphasis on meaningful patient interactions.
Ms. Stitt’s commitment to continuous learning is evident in her pursuit of additional certifications and advanced training as she prepares to apply to certified registered nurse anesthetist programs with aspirations of working at a Veterans Affairs hospital upon completion of advanced training. She distinguishes herself through resilience, commitment to lifelong learning and an unwavering focus on compassionate patient care, all qualities that have defined her journey from aspiring medical student to accomplished critical care nurse recognized among industry leaders.
