Lorri C. Jackson, Case Manager at Mission Healthcare Inc., has been recognized by Top Nurses for dedication, achievements and leadership in Healthcare.
Ms. Jackson is lauded for her expertise in the healthcare sector, currently serving as a case manager and registered nurse at Mission Healthcare Inc. She is best known for demonstrating her expertise in caring for patients and their families during critical times. Her work focuses on palliative and hospice care, where her goal is to continuously provide compassionate support to individuals and their loved ones navigating end-of-life decisions. Recognized as an advanced clinician in this area of nursing, Ms. Jackson’s distinction highlights her commitment to clinical excellence and patient advocacy.
Beyond direct patient care, Ms. Jackson is actively involved in research on compassion, fatigue and nurse burnout, issues that have become especially prominent since the COVID-19 pandemic. Her graduate practicum at Grand Canyon University focused on these topics, and she continues this research today by leading teams that disseminate findings throughout her organization. Ms. Jackson co-chairs the unit practice council alongside the spiritual care team at her hospital, recognizing the interconnectedness of spiritual support and palliative care. Additionally, she organizes care packages for nursing units that include thoughtful mementos for families experiencing loss.
Before joining Mission Healthcare Inc., Ms. Jackson served as a registered nurse at Sharp Memorial Hospital under Sharp HealthCare for nearly two decades, between 2008 and 2026. Her journey at Sharp Memorial began as a new graduate in the transplant unit, widely regarded as the hospital’s most challenging floor. After gaining initial experience, she transitioned to an acute care floor for two years to further develop her skills with more stable patients before returning to care for critically ill individuals. Ms. Jackson then moved to the progressive care unit on the heart failure floor, dedicating almost 10 years to this specialty. During this period, she also worked part-time in oncology and built strong relationships with her colleagues and nurse managers.
While working at Sharp Memorial Hospital, Ms. Jackson pursued further education and enrolled in an online master’s program at Grand Canyon University. Balancing part-time work in oncology with her studies, she was eventually offered a full-time position on the oncology floor. After earning a Master of Science in nursing as a nurse educator in 2017, she accepted a part-time teaching position at Brightwood College in San Diego, instructing new nurses in acute care nursing. When a full-time teaching opportunity arose, Ms. Jackson resigned from Sharp Memorial Hospital to focus on education. However, Brightwood College declared bankruptcy shortly after she began teaching full-time. Because she had not been away from Sharp Memorial Hospital for more than six months, she was reinstated and joined the newly established stroke unit for a few years before advancing into palliative care.
Ms. Jackson gained foundational experience as a certified nurse assistant and nurse extern at Pomerado Health (now Palomar Health) from 2007 to 2008. She also worked part-time at Del Mar Physical Therapy and previously held the position of executive secretary both before and during her early academic pursuits.
Instrumental in shaping her career trajectory, Ms. Jackson earned an associate degree from San Diego Community College District in San Diego, California, in 2001. She later received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from San Diego State University in San Diego, California, in 2008 and a Master of Science in nursing with a specialization as a nurse educator from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2017.
Ms. Jackson’s professional affiliations reflect her commitment to advancing standards within nursing and palliative care. She is a member of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association, the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California and the American Nurses Association of California. In light of her success, Ms. Jackson’s dedication has been recognized through several honors, including multiple Catch Me Caring Awards as well as being named a two-time recipient of the Guardian Angel Award.
Throughout each stage of her professional journey, Ms. Jackson has demonstrated resilience and adaptability while exploring various specialties within healthcare to find her niche. Her greatest satisfaction comes from supporting patients and families during moments of crisis, work that she describes as both rewarding and deeply meaningful. As an advanced clinician, Ms. Jackson is known for guiding families through complex decisions, such as end-of-life care choices and advocating for patient values regarding quality of life and happiness.
The foundation of Ms. Jackson’s success lies in her faith, a source of hope that sustains her personally and professionally. She credits her relationship with Christ as central to her ability to provide comfort and support to others during their most difficult moments. Looking ahead, Ms. Jackson aims to expand her research efforts globally on topics such as COVID-19’s impact on healthcare workers’ well-being, along with compassion, fatigue and nurse burnout among nurses worldwide. She also remains committed to education by mentoring new nurses while continuing hands-on clinical practice so that every patient receives compassionate end-of-life care supported by evidence-based research.
