Angela L. Boozer, neonatal nurse practitioner at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital at OU Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
Ms. Boozer is lauded for her expertise as a distinguished neonatal nurse practitioner at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital at OU Health since 2017, where she has dedicated over 15 years to advancing neonatal care. Her expertise in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and neonatology is evident through her role in daily joint medical management of up to 15 intensive care unit patients. Working alongside a neonatologist, Ms. Boozer contributes significantly to the level IV surgical NICU, which serves as a regional referral center renowned for its expertise in managing extremely low birth weight and very low birth weight infants, as well as patients requiring total body cooling and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Her responsibilities include total parenteral nutrition management, team rounding and performing all standard bedside procedures. Additionally, she is integral in several committees, including the NNP orientation committee, the NICU EPIC committee and the NNP scheduling committee.
In 2024, Ms. Boozer achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming OU Health’s first-ever neonatal advanced practice provider EPIC physician builder. This role involves working with the hospital’s charting system to improve efficiency in charting and documentation processes for children under their care. Ms. Boozer’s contributions have been instrumental in guiding her department toward enhanced practices.
Leveraging her former success in the health care sector, Ms. Boozer was a NICU registered nurse at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital at OU Health between 2009 and 2016. She also simultaneously served as a neonatal nurse clinician at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center from 2016 to 2017. Ms. Boozer’s career began in 2013 as a child passenger safety technician with Safe Kids, a position she held until 2019. During this time, she initiated a NICU class for parents focusing on car seat education and proper installation techniques for their children. This initiative continues to impact families positively by promoting health education and safety.
Ms. Boozer’s academic journey laid a strong foundation for her career achievements. She initially completed studies at the University of Oklahoma in 2007 toward a nursing degree before obtaining a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2009. Returning to college to advance her career, Ms. Boozer earned a Master of Science in nursing with a specialty as a neonatal nurse practitioner from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2017. Her certifications include advanced practice registered nurse and certified nurse practitioner from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and neonatal nurse practitioner certification from the National Certification Corporation.
In addition to her primary career objectives, Ms. Boozer’s dedication to neonatal care has been exemplified by her membership in several industry-related organizations, such as the Academy of Neonatal Nursing, the American Nurses Association and the National Association of Neonatal Nurses. Through her local community, Ms. Boozer gives back her time through involvement with civic activities as a volunteer car seat checker.
Ms. Boozer attributes her success to her faith, supportive husband and extended family. She also notes a strong nursing foundation built under several respected mentors, including outstanding professors and clinical preceptors during her nursing school career. Moreover, she credits her supportive director and managers for allowing her to attend conferences to stay updated on advancements in neonatology.
Looking ahead, Ms. Boozer aims to join the EPIC neonatology steering board to enhance efficiency in neonatology care nationwide by leveraging her expertise to guide hospitals and companies using the EPIC charting system.
