Sandra M. Bogenrief, RN, MSN, MBA, Nursing Educator at American Public Education Inc. (APEI) and Dean of Nursing at Rasmussen University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements and leadership in Health Care and Education.
Ms. Bogenrief has established a distinguished career in nursing and education spanning five decades. She has been affiliated with Rasmussen University (RU) since 2014 as a faculty member in the school of nursing in Blaine, Minnesota, and began serving as the dean of nursing in St. Cloud in 2016. Committed to shaping the next generation of health care professionals, Ms. Bogenrief leads numerous college courses for nursing students related to clinical nursing practice. She is also affiliated with American Public Education Inc. (APEI) as a nursing educator. APEI is recognized as a leading education services provider that offers educational programs through the American Public University System, including RU.
In addition to her commitments at RU, Ms. Bogenrief has been lauded as an education presenter with The Wellness Company since 2010. Her expertise extends to legal nurse consulting and patient advocacy through Oneka Medical Legal Consulting LLC in Hugo, Minnesota, where she has been a nurse consultant, national speaker and patient advocate since 2002.
From 2008 to 2013, Ms. Bogenrief worked as a legal nurse consultant, nurse and paralegal with Lommen, Abdo, Cole, King & Stageberg PA in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Meanwhile, her clinical experience has been extensive, spanning over two decades. Her foundational experience began as a licensed practical nurse at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, for one year. She also gained valuable experience as an operating room nurse at Regions Hospital and worked in eye surgery, neurosurgery and general surgery settings in North Carolina.
As she continually progressed, Ms. Bogenrief became an operating room and intensive care unit nurse at Hennepin County Medical Center from 1987 to 1992 before serving as a registered nurse and assistant manager for conscious sedation administration at DeVita Vascular Access Outpatient Surgery Clinic (later owned by Hennepin County Medical Center) in Minneapolis between 1996 and 1998. More recently, Ms. Bogenrief was a registered nurse in emergency services and the operating room at Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming, Minnesota, from 2002 to 2007. During this period, she played a pivotal role in two life-saving procedures, including assisting a trauma emergency room physician with a burr hole procedure on a patient with an active cranial bleed.
Ms. Bogenrief’s academic credentials include earning a Licensed Practical Nurse designation from Saint Paul Technical College at age 19. She later received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Bethel University in St. Paul, graduating in 1996. Subsequently, she completed a Master of Science in nursing leadership and a Master of Business Administration at Grand Canyon University in 2014. Ms. Bogenrief also held several certifications throughout her tenure that have supported her clinical practice and leadership roles, underpinning her ability to respond effectively in high-pressure medical situations.
Throughout her career, Ms. Bogenrief has maintained active involvement with professional organizations, including as a member of the National Association of Professional Women for over a decade. She also served as the secretary for the Minneapolis chapter of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants. Beyond these memberships, Ms. Bogenrief is recognized for her contributions as a speaker at major conferences, including the OMICS Group International Conferences in Las Vegas, the Emergency Room Nurses Association Conference and various scientific conferences.
Active through civic engagement and volunteerism, Ms. Bogenrief has participated in medical missions with King’s Castle Ministries in El Salvador since 2015. She has also volunteered on mission trips to Uganda and Kenya through Bethel University and at an orphanage in Puebla, Mexico. Furthermore, Ms. Bogenreif has volunteered for fundraising initiatives with the American Red Cross, served as a nurse at children’s camps, and has been active through speaking engagements for women’s groups, Bible studies and church events.
Ms. Bogenrief attributes her success to her drive and tenacity. Early exposure to long-term care work during high school solidified her passion for medicine, while subsequent experiences alongside surgeons deepened her understanding of complex medical procedures. Ms. Bogenrief remains committed to investing in individuals who can continue her mission within nursing education and patient care, ensuring that her legacy endures through those she mentors and inspires.
