Carolyn L. Gegor, CNM, MS, FACNM, director and assistant professor at Georgetown University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.

With three and a half decades of experience, Ms. Gegor has built a distinguished career in health care, focusing on midwifery and nursing. She currently leads Ultrasound For Women’s Health Providers, providing specialized training and certification in ultrasound technology for women’s health, a role she has held since 2017. Her extensive background includes serving as director and assistant professor of midwifery education at Georgetown University until 2013, director of midwifery services at the University of Maryland School of Medicine from 1996 to 2002, assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine from 1996 to 2002, and director of midwifery services at The Johns Hopkins University from 1989 to 1996. She also retired as an online teaching instructor from The George Washington University in 2015.

Ms. Gegor holds memberships with the American College of Nurse-Midwives, the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Inc., the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, The National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the American Association of Birth Centers. She also served as past president of the ACNM Foundation from 2003 to 2009. Laying a solid educational foundation, she earned a diploma in Nursing from Washington Hospital Center School of Nursing in 1971, a Master of Science in nurse midwifery from Georgetown University in 1988, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Notre Dame of Maryland University in 1984. Additionally, she has been certified as a registered nurse since 1971.

Ms. Gegor takes great pride in her notable achievement as the director of nurse midwifery education at Georgetown University. Although she was initially tasked with closing the program, she successfully secured an additional year to continue its operations. Under her leadership, the program has thrived, now graduating over 150 students nationwide. She is deeply proud of her graduates and her role in expanding the program, significantly enhancing the availability of midwifery care across the country. In the coming years, she aims to further establish her company, ensuring its continuation through her current instructors and others who share her passion. She also plans to broaden the range of courses offered, with a focus on expanding online offerings to reach a wider audience within the healthcare industry.
