Dr. Dwight Anthony Davis, DNP, FNP-C, RN, a family nurse practitioner at Texas DOT Physicals, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of nursing.
Hailing from over 30 years of experience in his chosen profession, Dr. Davis has distinguished himself through his work as a certified medical examiner at Texas DOT Physicals, a physical examination, pre-screening and drug testing service that provides on-demand tests for truckers and other heavy freight professionals throughout Texas. Working in compliance with Texas Department of Transportation regulations, Dr. Davis’ area of expertise resides in health assessment, as well as the treatment of dermatology, asthma and allergies. Outside of his work with Texas DOT Physicals, he serves as a contractor on behalf of the state veterans’ affairs program. Having held this role since 2016, his responsibilities include performing physical examinations and health assessments for veterans on a regular basis.
Initially licensed as a practical nurse in 1993, Dr. Davis subsequently earned an associate degree in nursing at Lamar State College Port Arthur in 2010. Following this accomplishment, he received a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2014, and a master’s degree from South University, Savannah, in 2016. Returning to UT Arlington, Dr. Davis graduated with a Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2019. Over the course of his early education, he notably benefited from the tutelage of Dr. Crislyn Stokes-McDaniel, whose brilliance and courage inspired him to pursue his dreams in dermatology and seek out other mentors.
Among his most cherished accomplishments, Dr. Davis is most proud to have established his own practice – while he conducts physical examinations for veterans, which involve pension evaluations, he does so through a contracted company. Texas DOT Physicals, however, remains his own independent enterprise. In accounting for his success in this endeavor, he largely credits his unwavering determination and personal drive. Whenever he sets his mind to a goal, he spares no effort in pursuing it until its realization. Likewise, when dealing with patients, he prides himself on his ability to care for the whole person, rather than the specific ailments afflicting them.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Davis has set his sights on expanding the scope of Texas DOT Physicals, with the ultimate objective of reaching an annual gross revenue of $1 million or more. Though he aspires to explore the possibility of franchising in the years ahead, his primary focus remains on sustaining growth. In offering advice to those who seek to follow his example, Dr. Davis counsels that prospective health care workers would do well to maintain a caring and empathetic nature, and to treat their profession as a calling, rather than a job.
