Shelly R Swalley, MS, RN, Director of Practical Nursing at Kiamichi Technology Centers, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing administration.

With many years of experience to her credit, Ms. Swalley has excelled as the director of practical nursing for Kiamichi Technology Centers in Antlers, Oklahoma since 2010. Prior to this position, she served as the assistant director of practical nursing with Kiamichi Technology Centers between 2005 and 2009. She was previously active as a practical nursing instructor for Kiamichi Technology Centers, Idabel from 2003 to 2005. Ms. Swalley initially became a registered nurse with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing in 1989.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Swalley pursued an education at Oklahoma Baptist University, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, cum laude, in 1989. She concluded her studies at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1995, graduating with a Master of Science in healthcare administration. Following these accomplishments, Ms. Swalley obtained a school nurse standard teaching certificate from the Oklahoma State Department of Education in 2006 and a national career readiness certification from ACT in 2013.

In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Swalley has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was notably recognized as the Outstanding Educator of the Year for Health Careers Education by the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technical Education in 2010 and 2013. She was subsequently honored among the Women in Leadership by Oklahoma CareerTech from 2017 to 2018 and was celebrated for the Best LPN Program in Oklahoma from practicalnursing.org from 2017 to 2022. Likewise, Ms. Swalley was presented with the Recognition of Service Award from Kiamichi Technology Centers in 2023.

Attributing her success to her passion for nursing, Ms. Swalley is incredibly proud of her contributions as a board member and the past president of the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, appointments which were directly instated by the Governor of Oklahoma and provided her with both personal and professional growth. Inspired by a number of teachers as well as the dean of nursing, she was drawn to her field by her direct experiences with her ailing grandfather, as his nurse explained her process to her in great detail. Looking toward the future, Ms. Swalley hopes to continue thriving in her present position while reducing the workload of her instructors and increasing the number of programs available to them.
