E.G. “Jerry” Farris, Chaplain, RN, a national chaplain at the Jewish War Veterans of the USA, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of nursing.

Having served for over three decades in the field of nursing, Ms. Farris has distinguished herself as a national chaplain for the Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV), an organization that seeks to support Jewish service members and enshrine their historical contributions. Appointed to her role in 2003, Ms. Farris has earned distinction as the first woman to serve as a chaplain in the JWV’s history, and has also contributed several articles to the organization’s internal newspaper.

Prior to her work in civic advocacy, Ms. Farris found success as a nurse for several decades, having initially served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 until 1965. Following this period, she attained higher levels of certification in her field, including as a licensed vocational nurse in 1969 and a registered nurse in 1984. Additionally, she further expanded upon her knowledge of the field at Trinity Valley Community College, where she received an Associate of Science in 1984. As a testament to her subsequent work as both a nurse and chaplain, Ms. Farris was lauded as the Person of the Year for Jewish War Veterans by the government of Pennsylvania, which also bestowed upon her a Governor’s Award.

In accounting for her success, Ms. Farris credits her perseverance in the face of challenges both personal and professional, as well as the pride she always took in the small victories she achieved while working in the emergency room. Looking toward the future, she hopes to continue serving on behalf of the JWV and indulging in her favorite pastimes – playing the guitar and singing.
