Penelope Patrice Chaisson Barber, Certified Nurse Anesthetist at Sheridan Healthcare, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
In preparation for her career in nursing, Ms. Barber attended Miami Dade College and graduated with an Associate of Arts, as well as an Associate of Science in Nursing. Continuing her higher education at Florida International University, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts and general studies and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Ms. Barber completed her studies in 2012 at Florida International University and obtained a Master of Science in Nursing. She is also a certified nurse anesthetist.
Since 2016, Ms. Barber has found success as a certified nurse anesthetist with Sheridan Healthcare in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and since 2013 she has contributed in the same capacity with the University of Miami Hospital. Prior to these posts, she was a certified nurse anesthetist with the Memorial Regional Hospital. In addition, she has shared her knowledge as a presenter at a diversity and inclusion seminar for the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology.
Ms. Barber attributes her success to her family’s matriarchs, who significantly influenced her throughout her development and upbringing. She considers watching her nursing students grow to be the most notable achievement of her career, as it gives her great satisfaction to know she has had an impact on others and helped to raise the standard of care in anesthesia. To keep abreast of developments in her field, she maintains membership with the Healing Hands Foundation and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.
Ms. Barber is the author of a book of poetry titled “Penelope’s Purple Passion,” and in her spare time, she enjoys traveling, writing, and lifting. A lifelong athlete, she has even earned second place in multiple fitness competitions, including the World’s Strongest Woman. In the coming years, she hopes to compete in the Arnold’s Strongman Classic, publish her second book, and grow as an author. Ms. Barber also hopes to become one of the leading published poets.
