Verdell Marsh, PhD, RN, Retired Associate Chief Nurse with the Department of Veterans Affairs, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing education, research and cardiovascular studies.
With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Marsh has served in a wide array of roles in the health care field. She leveraged her skills and expertise as an associate chief nurse with the Department of Veterans Affairs from 2005 to 2013, having been nurse manager since 2003. Prior to obtaining these roles, she was an instructor and nursing and staff development specialist with the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 1983 to 2003, having been a staff nurse in the medical ICU and CCU since 1981 and nurse and member of the telemetry staff since 1975. Earlier in her career, she was a staff nurse with 3 West and Parkland Memorial Hospital from 1974 to 1975. In 1977, Dr. Marsh was commissioned into the US Army Reserves as First Lieutenant, where she served for 30 years in the Army Nursing Corps. Culminating her military career in 2007, Dr. Marsh retired as a Colonel and the Chief Nurse of the 94th Combat Support Hospital.
Dr. Marsh first pursued an education with Texas Woman’s University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1974. She continued her studies with the school, receiving a Master of Science in nursing in 1981. She subsequently completed the United States Army Medical College Officer Basic Course in 1981 and Officer Advanced Course in 1987, and she continued to complete coursework with the Command and General Staff College in 1990. She later returned to Texas Woman’s University, earning a PhD in nursing in 1997. Throughout her career, she has been a registered nurse in the state of Texas.
