Benjamin O. Njoku, MBA, Assistant Director of Nursing at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements and leadership in Health Care.

Mr. Njoku is a leader in the health care sector, currently serving as an assistant director of nursing for perioperative services at New York City Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he directs clinical nursing operations and perioperative services. In this capacity, he oversees the surgical intensive care unit, recovery room, operating room, ambulatory surgery department and special surgery department. His responsibilities include ensuring adequate staffing, maintaining a high quality of care at the bedside, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and engaging with nurses to foster positive staffing engagement. Mr. Njoku’s expertise in leadership and critical care has been instrumental in his ability to guide these departments effectively.

Affiliated with the health care organization for over five years, Mr. Njoku held the position of assistant director of nursing administration and operations from 2022 to 2024. In this role, he managed administrative functions and operational strategies for the nursing division, focusing on optimizing workflow efficiency and supporting staff development. Between 2019 and 2021, Mr. Njoku was a nurse manager and head nurse, where he led nursing teams within critical care environments and was recognized for his contributions through several institutional awards.

Mr. Njoku began his professional journey as a registered nurse in staff nursing within the medical intensive care unit at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx from 2011 to 2019. He provided direct patient care in high-acuity settings, demonstrating clinical proficiency and compassion for patients facing complex health challenges. In 2018, Mr. Njoku also served as a per diem staff registered nurse in the cardiac surgery intensive care unit at Mount Sinai Health System in Manhattan, New York. This experience broadened his exposure to advanced cardiac care protocols and further developed his skills in critical care nursing.

In preparation for his career in health care, Mr. Njoku earned an Associate of Science in registered nursing from Hostos Community College, City University of New York, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Hunter College in 2017, and a Master of Business Administration in health care administration from Baruch College in 2025. He also holds numerous certifications that have supported his advancement within the field, including as a registered professional nurse from the New York State Department of Education and as a critical care registered nurse from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Mr. Njoku also completed a trauma nursing core course through the Emergency Nurses Association, trauma care after resuscitation from Visionem, and, among others, advanced cardiovascular life support for experienced providers from the American Heart Association.

Mr. Njoku’s professional affiliations are extensive. He is affiliated with the National Black Nurses Association and acts as an ambassador for the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. He has also been a member of the board of directors and board of trustees for the New York Relief Network since 2020, has served on the board of directors for the American Association for Men in Nursing since 2022 and has been the secretary and treasurer for the Society of Critical Care Medicine since 2024.

Apart from his primary endeavors, Mr. Njoku’s civic engagement includes volunteering with New York Cares since 2009 and The Bronx is Blooming since 2022. He has also participated in medical missions serving rural areas in Thailand as well as underprivileged communities across Latin America and Asia. Additionally, Mr. Njoku collaborates with organizations, such as the Commission for Nurse Reimbursement, on projects intended to further impact healthcare delivery within Bronx communities.

Mr. Njoku is authoring a work-in-progress titled “Reimagining Representation: Advancing the Role of Male Nurses Through Global Missions,” which explores strategies for increasing male representation within nursing through international outreach efforts.

Recognized through several honors, some of Mr. Njoku’s recent accolades have included the MacKenzie Scott Honor Award for Alumni Community Engagement by Hostos Community College, City University of New York, in 2024, Best Chapter Award by NYC Men in Nursing from the American Association for Men in Nursing in 2024, and Notable Leaders in Philanthropy by Crain’s New York Business in 2025.

Influenced by interactions with other nurses early in his career, Mr. Njoku discovered a strong passion for caring for others, which led him toward leadership roles and active involvement in voluntary medical missions aimed at making a broader impact. He credits his motivation and determination to enhance health care outcomes for residents of the Bronx as key drivers behind his achievements. Looking ahead, Mr. Njoku aims to continue developing workforce initiatives designed to increase the number of Bronx residents pursuing careers in nursing by visiting schools to engage students with opportunities within health care professions.
