Stella Ngozi Nwakaego, PhD, MS, LVN, FRC, licensed vocational nurse at Stella Consulting Services, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in vocational nursing.

Born in Nigeria, Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego began making annual trips to the United States to visit family members on holidays in 1981. By 1989, she had made the decision to immigrate to the U.S. and begin pursuing a career in nursing. Since then, Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego has established herself across a career of over 35 years as a vocational nurse. Culminating that professional journey, she launched her own company, Stella Consulting Services, in 2024.

Through Stella Consulting Services, Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego provides on-call service to clients. As a vocational nurse, she is more focused on direct care for individuals rather than offering the more traditional, more anonymized nursing to a larger pool of patients. Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego is able to spend more time with each client, getting to understand their specific needs. With that higher degree of focus, she is able to provide more personalized solutions. Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego also offers counseling services to her patients. She previously contributed as a school counselor while pursuing her PhD in psychology.

Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego’s extensive career was born of her academic journey. Her education began with obtaining a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling. Subsequently, Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego earned a PhD in psychology with a specialty in health from National University. She is licensed in vocational nursing.

To remain aware of developments affecting her field, Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego has maintained her professional affiliation with a number of pertinent organizations. She maintains membership in the Phi Kappa Society, the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the American Nurses Association. Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego emphasizes the importance of research and continued learning. As part of her research during her PhD program, she discovered that approximately 80% of nurses suffer from lower back pain and other forms of discomfort. Since then, Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego has used her vocational nursing role as a means of encouraging people to perform exercises that can ease their pain and help them avoid expensive and painful surgeries. She has also applied these techniques to herself, successfully avoiding her own potential surgery in 2013 and proving the effectiveness of these exercises.

Though she is now 74 years old and nearing the end of her career, Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego remains an on-call vocational nurse and has not made plans for full retirement. She attributes her success to hard work and self-determination. When Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego’s parents were unable to provide her with formal schooling, for example, she made the choice to work in a factory while attending evening classes until she could move to England and continue her education. She believes anyone can set themselves up for success if they put their mind to it and remain determined.

Moving into the future, Dr. Ngozi Nwakaego plans to continue exploring health issues facing nurses on a global scale. She hopes to integrate the findings from her research into hospitals and other nursing businesses in order to promote and improve health among nurses. Dr. Ngozi Nwaekaego hopes to advocate further for exercise strategies that support well-being and prevent the need for surgeries.
