Dr. Holleran’s expertise in chronic pain management is widely recognized.

The VHA of Salt Lake City is a veteran-focused health care system that specializes in various types of medical services, such as mental health care, routine exams and specialized treatments for veterans, their families and caregivers. This location was founded in 1946.

Before being acquired by the VHA, Dr. Holleran served as a nurse practitioner from 2010 to 2015, during which time she gained extensive expertise in the field. Her career also included a notable tenure as the head nurse in the emergency department at the University of Utah. Among other prominent roles, Dr. Holleran’s more than 20 years of dedicated service to medical transport have been instrumental in developing advanced trauma courses for transport nurses, thereby enhancing the quality of care provided in critical situations.

Dr. Holleran’s professional journey began as a critical care nurse at Robinson Memorial Hospital in her hometown of Ravenna, Ohio. Recognized as an acute care, nonprofit hospital, it serves the entire Portage County area and specializes in emergency services. Dr. Holleran further honed her skills in emergency departments at both the University of Cincinnati and Akron, Ohio.

Possessing a rich educational background, Dr. Holleran’s academic achievements include earning a Doctor of Philosophy from The Ohio State University in Columbus after completing her undergraduate work. Her advanced degree has been critical to her remarkable success in nursing and emergency medicine.

In addition to her degrees, Dr. Holleran has been an active member of her professional community, serving as a board member of the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) since 1997. The independent, nonprofit agency, based in South Carolina, is responsible for setting industry standards for medical transport services through audits and accreditations. Dr. Holleran also garnered leadership expertise as a past president of the Emergency Nurses Association. Besides her professional endeavors, she is actively involved in civic activities, volunteering at Intermountain Hospital’s emergency department.

An accomplished author, Dr. Holleran has written several influential books, including “Mosby’s Emergency Nursing Review” in 1991, “Mosby’s Emergency and Flight Nursing Review” in 1995, and “Mosby’s CEN Examination Review” in 2000. These publications have become essential resources for professionals in emergency and transport nursing.

Dr. Holleran’s dedication has been recognized with awards such as the George E. Wahlen Recognition from VHA of Salt Lake City and the Judith C. Kelleher Award for contributions to the emergency nursing profession. She attributes much of her professional accomplishments to the unwavering support of her husband, who has been pivotal throughout her career.

Looking ahead, Dr. Holleran envisions continuing her work with veterans, driven by a commitment to providing exceptional care and support to those who have served their country.
