Kelly S. Grimshaw, DNP, value analysis nurse at Yale New Haven Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.

Dr. Grimshaw is a leading health care professional who joined Yale New Haven Health, a nonprofit health care system in New Haven, Connecticut, in 2020 that provides primary care, neurology, cardiology, and specialty medical care services. As a value analysis nurse, she works closely with the finance and reimbursement department and discusses potential impacts on the business, products and services.

Having begun her career as a nurse practitioner and medical coordinator at Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), Dr. Grimshaw spent 10 years with the nonprofit organization in places like Liberia, Angola and Zambia, beginning in 1999. Her role encompassed medical strategy and quality of care in civil and ethnic conflict situations, providing indigenous disease care and responding to epidemic disease outbreaks. Operating in 70 countries, Médecins Sans Frontières provides medical humanitarian assistance to those suffering in crises.

Among other noteworthy roles, Dr. Grimshaw was a staff nurse in the surgical intensive care unit
at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was also a staff nurse in the surgical intensive care unit and a staff nurse in the general trauma unit at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Beyond her field work, Dr. Grimshaw has served as a lecturer at Fairfield University in the school of nursing in Fairfield and New Haven and at Yale University in the school of nursing in New Haven.

In preparation for her future in the medical realm, Dr. Grimshaw received a Master of Science in nursing as an acute care nurse practitioner from the University of Connecticut in 1995. Returning to college years later to advance her career, she earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Michigan in 2018. She also holds several professional credentials, including as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and a Critical Care Registered Nurse.

Active in her professional community, Dr. Grimshaw is a member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Civically, she has been active as a committee chair for women’s health at the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution through the Lady Fenwick chapter in Connecticut since 2017 and has volunteered for the Chesprocott Health District. Following her tenure with Médecins Sans Frontières, Dr. Grimshaw served as a member of its board of directors from 2010 to 2017 so she could continue giving back. This role involved managing mission stewardship, which involved the delivery of medical aid to populations in danger. Dr. Grimshaw remains active with the organization as a member of its general assembly.

Dr. Grimshaw’s expertise in critical care, respiratory and digestive health, dialysis and renal replacement therapy have been pivotal to her diverse background in nursing. Throughout her career, she has been lauded for her expertise and recognized as one of the New Haven Health Heroes.

Ms. Grimshaw attributes her success to her curiosity and willingness to embrace new opportunities. For her, success is driven by a genuine interest in the world around her. She believes in saying yes to new experiences, most notably her extensive work with Doctors Without Borders.
