Mr. Werbiski, a registered nurse of specialty rehabilitation and long-term acute care at Saint Elias Specialty Hospital, has excelled in his role since 2023. Responsible for helping patients as they receive therapy and regain functionality after suffering from a stroke, heart attack, amputation or other traumatic event, he is devoted to providing the highest level of patient care possible. Additionally, Mr. Werbiski’s role encompasses supporting the nursing staff and the needs of his unit and collaborating with other departments as needed. Before joining Saint Elias Specialty Hospital, he was a registered nurse in critical care and an emergency room trauma responder with the Alaska Native Medical Center from 2017 to 2023. He also held similar roles at the Maniilaq Health Center and the Johnson City Medical Center.
In preparation for his career in the industry, Mr. Werbiski attended Milligan University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 2015. He also studied at Western Governors University, where he garnered a Master of Science in nursing education. While in college, he was a graduate nurse in the cardiac step-down unit at the Johnson City Medical Center in 2015 before being hired by the facility full-time.
Over the years, Mr. Werbiski has developed strong relationships with his patients. His dedication to patient care has earned him several awards and recognitions, including Critical Care Unit Employee of the Month by the Alaska Native Medical Center in 2016. Saint Elias Specialty Hospital also recognized him with an Employee of the Month award and a Daisy Award nomination by the Saint Elias Specialty Hospital in 2024. Mr. Werbiski credits much of his success to his supportive family. Looking toward the future, he intends to earn a master’s degree and a doctorate to continue progressing and begin educating nurses to support their development in the field.
