Kerry A. Schmeiler, public health nurse at the City of Stamford’s Department of Health and Human Services, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
With three decades of experience, Ms. Schmeiler has established a successful career in health care and education, specializing in public health. Since 2019, she has served as a public health nurse for the Department of Health and Human Services with the City of Stamford, where she administers vaccines and provides health care services in both public and private elementary schools. Her previous roles include registered nurse care manager and care management supervisor at SeniorBridge in 2019, case management nurse at DanielCare LLC from 2015 to 2019, and registered nurse at Stamford Hospital, Stamford Health, from 1995 to 2017. She also dedicates her time as a seasonal nurse for a local football league during the season, providing on-site medical care for injured children.
Ms. Schmeiler laid a strong educational foundation, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the University of Connecticut in 2001, a Master of Arts in elementary education and teaching from Sacred Heart University in 2004, and an associate degree and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Connecticut State Community College Norwalk in 2008. Reflecting on her path, she recalls a notable moment while working with orthopedic and medical patients where she identified abnormal lab results for a patient scheduled for a procedure. She promptly alerted the charge nurse and advocated for further investigation, with her quick action leading to postponing the procedure, potentially preventing a serious adverse event. She attributes her success to her passion for caregiving, which she believes is both a calling and a skill nurtured through continuous learning. Looking to the future, she is committed to lifelong learning and plans to further her education, possibly through a certificate in public health. Additionally, she regularly attends seminars, including an upcoming session on diabetes, to enhance her knowledge and skills in the field.
