Ms. LaFollette is an experienced emergency room (ER) nurse and expert in nursing informatics who has been working for over a decade in her field. In 2023, she transitioned into becoming an epic analyst in a remote capacity for Phelps Health, where she has been critical to the health care organization. Based in Rolla, Missouri, Phelps Health is recognized as one of the largest employers in the region.
In her role, Ms. LaFollette is responsible for all oncology-related aspects at Phelps Health, including designing treatment therapy plans and survivorship care plans. She also collaborates with end-users and management to find ways to simplify their workflow and streamline their charting tasks. Ms. LaFollette is an epic systems analyst from Monday to Friday and is involved in one to two 12-hour shifts in the ER.
Notably, Epic analysts specialize in using Epic Systems Corporation’s electronic medical record software. As such, they are involved in designing, implementing, and maintaining the Epic EMR system within the health care organization in which they work.
Ms. LaFollette’s career history began at Phelps Health in 2014 as a travel nurse. She became a full-time in 2016 and has remained with the organization ever since. Earlier in her career, she worked in the same capacity for Trustaff, a well-respected travel health care agency based in Cincinnati, beginning in 2011
In preparation for her career in health care, Ms. LaFollette received an associate degree in nursing, followed by a Bachelor of Science in nursing, culminating in a Master of Science in nursing informatics, with high distinction, from Chamberlain University in 2021. She also holds several professional credentials that further her knowledge and expertise in her industry. Adding value to her education and background, Ms. LaFollette has been active as a professional member of the Emergency Nurses Association and the Health Management Information System.
Throughout her 16-year tenure as an ER nurse, Ms. LaFollette has garnered remarkable experience in all areas of emergency medicine. In addition to practicing in the field, she found satisfaction in teaching and mentoring up-and-coming nurses regarding trauma care and triaging, two critical aspects of the field.
Ms. LaFollette’s accomplishments have been recognized with numerous Care Awards and an Appreciation Award for reviving a drowning child. She was also nominated for a Daisy Award. This honor recognizes nurses for their compassionate care and kindness through nominations from patients, families and co-workers. These accolades are a testament to her hard work and dedication to excelling in her field. Ms. LaFollette credits much of her good fortune to her commitment to nursing and passion for helping patients enjoy a better quality of life, even in the most challenging situations. Knowing her impact has been tremendously rewarding, and she looks forward to continued success in the field.
Eager for the next chapter of her career, Ms. LaFollette is enthusiastic about her role in contributing to Epic Systems. She also envisions advancing into a supervisory role, where she can either lead a team of Epic Systems analysts or become an Epic Systems Corporation employee based in Verona, Wisconsin. In preparation for this new venture, Ms. LaFollette has completed three specific certifications that will serve as instrumental.
