Nan E. Tobias, DNP, pediatric nurse practitioner at Nationwide Children’s Hospital-Toledo, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric urology.

With 44 years of experience to her credit, Mrs. Tobias has excelled as a pediatric nurse practitioner at Nationwide Children’s Hospital – Toledo since 2022. She primarily performs outpatient work with children suffering from bladder dysfunction, urinary tract infections, reflux, hypospadias, hernias, and more. She also sees children before and after surgeries. She began her career as a urology pediatric nurse practitioner at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center from 1989 to 2015. She garnered a stellar reputation as a pediatric nurse practitioner at Mercy Health Children’s Hospital from 2015 to 2021.

Before embarking on her professional path, Mrs. Tobias pursued an education at the University of Cincinnati, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1979. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, obtaining a Master of Science in nursing in 1985. She concluded her studies at Ohio State University, graduating with a Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2022. She holds certifications in pediatric acute care and pediatric primary care from the United Latino Students Association.

In addition to her primary vocation, Mrs. Tobias remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She found success with her multiple written works published in the Urologic Nursing Journal, Contemporary Pediatrics, and Pediatric Nursing. She was a member of the advisory committee for the Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Cincinnati from 1992 to 2015. She sat on the executive committee of the Pediatric Urology Nurses & Specialists and held the role of president of the Advanced Practitioners Education Council.

In light of her impressive undertakings, Mrs. Tobias has accrued several accolades throughout her career, including being nominated multiple times for the Florence Nightingale Awards. She attributes her success to her relationship with her mentors, specifically Dr. Sheldon at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. The two have worked together for 20 years and have had an amazing working relationship. She was also the very first nurse practitioner in Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. In the immediate future, she is considering pursuing part-time teaching work and working as a consultant for pediatric practices in particular related to urologic care.
