Dr. Mary S. McCarthy, nurse scientist with the U.S. Army, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health promotion.
With 18 years of experience to her credit, Dr. McCarthy has excelled as a nurse scientist with the United States Army since 2005. She served as a nurse at the same for 17 years. Before embarking on her professional path, she pursued an education at D’Youville University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1980. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Washington School of Nursing, graduating with a master’s degree in physiological nursing in 1989 and a PhD in nursing science in 2006. She completed a certification as a nutrition support clinician from the National Board for Nutrition Support in 2014.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Dr. McCarthy has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She served as an editorial associate for journals. In addition to her primary vocation, she remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She sat on the board of directors of the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and was a member of the American Academy of Nursing, the American Academy of Nursing, the American Society for Nutrition, the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science, Sigma Theta Tau, and the Western Institute of Nursing.
In light of her impressive undertakings, Dr. McCarthy has accrued several accolades throughout her career. She was named a fellow of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in 2019 and the American Academy of Nursing in 2016. She was presented with the Scientific Mentorship Award by the Triservice Nursing Research Program and named the Geneva Researcher of the Year in 2018.
