Ms. Shaffer embarked on her educational journey by completing an Associate of Science in nursing at Central Oregon Community College in 2004. Building upon this foundation, she pursued a Bachelor of Science in nursing, achieving magna cum laude honors from Linfield University in 2015. Continuing her dedication to learning, she completed her Master of Science in nursing midwifery at Thomas Jefferson University in 2019. Ms. Shaffer also holds certifications as a certified nurse midwife (CNM) accredited by the American Midwifery Certification Board since 2019. Additionally, she has earned credentials including c-EFM from The National Certification Corporation, recognition from the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®), and is a registered nurse certified – inpatient obstetric nursing (RNC-OB).

Ms. Shaffer commenced her career in healthcare by contributing her skills as a certified nurse assistant (CAN), licensed practical nurse (LPN), and later as a registered nurse (RN) at St. Charles Health System from 2000 to 2005. During this time, she also served as an RN and peer counselor at the Pregnancy Resource Center of Central Oregon from 2005 to 2011. Moving forward, she advanced as a charge nurse at UCHealth from 2015 to 2021, demonstrating her leadership and clinical expertise. Following this role, she transitioned to Care New England as a nurse midwife from 2021 to 2022 and has been serving as a nurse midwife at Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc. since 2022. 

Ms. Shaffer’s dedication and commitment to excellence were recognized early in her career when she received the prestigious Walter G. Coombs Award from Central Oregon Community College in 2003. The standout highlight Throughout her career has been successfully completing her graduate studies while raising six children, showcasing her dedication and resilience in becoming a midwife. She attributes her accomplishments to her husband’s unwavering support over the years. Ms. Shaffer aspires to extend her efforts by contributing to underserved regions, particularly focusing on improving maternity care accessibility in rural areas of southern Colorado.
