Gloria H. Livas, BSN, Registered Nurse at the VA Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in healthcare.

Ms. Livas has found success as a registered nurse in several positions through the VA Medical Center. Since 1989, she has filled the role of nursing manager of the emergency department, been a part of the utilization review staff, and has worked with the community care program. She credits her unwavering faith in the Lord as the driving force of her success.

Following a life-long dream of becoming a nurse, Ms. Livas earned her registered nursing training certificate from the McFarland Institute. Afterward, she dedicated her life to being a wife and mother to her two children. However, she never forgot her desire to become a nurse, and in 1989, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Louisiana State University. With help from fellow churchgoers, she found a way to give back to her community through her work with the veteran’s hospital.

Ms. Livas enjoys spending time in her community, where she volunteers as the community health educator for the senior citizens’ home visit nursing program. She is also a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. In 1999, she was nominated as one of The Great 100 Nurses by the Veteran’s Administration. This prestigious honor is granted to exceptional nurses.

As retirement approaches, Ms. Livas is making plans for her future. She intends to devote more time and energy to her local church, where she hopes to mentor young people by offering them support and guidance to help them succeed. When she is not working, she spends time working with her community and serving her church.
