At the University of Illinois Chicago, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with honors, in 1989 and a Master of Science in public health nursing in 1994. She is certified as a family nurse practitioner and licensed as a registered nurse.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Rowlands has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society, the Phi Beta Kappa Society, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She volunteered as school nurse at St. Anne School of East Moline, Illinois for 20 years and was active on several committees in her church.
Ms. Rowlands, who has 29 years of experience as a family nurse practitioner, feels a sense of gratification in knowing she has helped save countless lives and made people feel better. With some trepidation and melancholy, she recently transitioned to partial retirement. She intends to continue working until she reaches her 50th year as a nurse, and beyond that, she intends to focus on her family and garden.
