She previously worked with Goodwill Industries International as a certified nursing assistant instructor from 2010 to 2013. Furthermore, she was a school nurse for the Knox County Schools from 2007 to 2010. Since she first began her career in 1985, Ms. Gerard has specialized in working in various nursing settings, including the ICU and CCU, trauma surgery ICU, home health supervision and child care. In her adjacent civic-minded pursuits, she regularly volunteers with her local church and other organizations focused on providing food and other essential resources to those in need.

As part of her vocational journey, Ms. Gerard cultivated her higher education. To wit, she attended the Fort Sanders School of Nursing and earned a diploma, with honors, in 1987. In addition to her academic credentials, she is fully licensed in compact registered nursing. To commemorate her accomplishments in the field, she was also previously recognized with an award from Goodwill Industries International and an award for conducting a seminar at her local chapter of Kiwanis International. In light of her fulfilling career, Ms. Gerard has largely attributed her success to her faith and the support of her late father.
