Prior to working as a professional nurse, Ms. Scammon served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1979 to 1981. To keep abreast of her field, she has maintained affiliation with the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses. She attributes her success to her refusal to limit herself to the operating room.

Ms. Scammon initially hoped to pursue a career as a surgeon, but after deciding against it for financial reasons, she returned to medicine later as a nurse. She considers her operating room demeanor and ability to make new team members comfortable her greatest achievement. In the future, Ms. Scammon hopes to travel the world as a CPR instructor.
