She followed him to Michigan when they married for his schooling and work. One daughter is married with three children who attend Divine Child Catholic School in Dearborn, Michigan, and the other recently became engaged. They both work in management positions at Quicken Loans. Divorced in 1983, Ms. Miller continued her career and worked at Wayne County General Hospital, Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and Garden City Hospital. She worked on a busy step-down unit; stressed to the max and ready to quit, she was encouraged to transfer to the rehabilitation unit by the department head, Kathleen Urban. Ms. Miller moved to Ohio in 2007 for a short time and worked in a nursing home in Rittman, Ohio as a part-time MDS coordinator and a nurse supervisor. She lived with her parents at the time in her childhood home to be near them as her father was ill, and on hospice before her passing. Her mother began her adjustment to being a widow.
Returning to Michigan was difficult for Ms. Miller, as she was finding work and dealing with her own grief. She established her own business after obtaining the help of Deborah Johnson, RN, CRRN, in her business, Care Forward. The business was founded on rehabilitation principles. She also worked at Botsford Commons Rehabilitation Center as a nursing supervisor until she retired. After an adjustment period, she started volunteering. She volunteered at The Friendship Center in Dearborn teaching English as a second language to woman immigrants, and Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors in Dearborn. As her mother became more dependent, she spent more time in Ohio until she finally moved to Ohio where she felt she needed to be nearby her family members and childhood companions. Her mother recently died. Ms. Miller now volunteers at the Red Cross in Akron area and has settled in Copley, Ohio.
