From 2008 to 2015, she was a registered nurse in the intensive care unit and emergency department at the Munson Medical Center. Ms. Kurek began her career with the intensive care unit of The George Washington University Hospital from 2007 to 2008 before serving as a registered nurse with the Swedish Medical Center in 2008.

In preparation for her career, Ms. Kurek attended Ferris State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2012. In 2015, she graduated from Georgetown University with a Master of Science in adult medicine, gerontology and acute care nurse practitioner coursework. Dedicated to continuing education, Ms. Kurek holds numerous certifications. She is a Critical Care Registered Nurse (Adult) with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner and a Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Ms. Kurek is also certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support through the American College of Surgeons and in Advanced Cardiac Life Support from the American Heart Association. To keep abreast of her field, she maintains membership with the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
