Jessica Smith Bumgarner, BSN-RN, CHFN, Registered Nurse at Frye Regional Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in cardiology nursing.

With more than a decade of experience to her credit, Ms. Bumgarner has excelled as registered nurse with a specialty in cardiology, specifically the treatment of heart failure and stroke, at the Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, North Carolina since 2010. Additionally active at the aforementioned healthcare facility as the discharge navigator, heart failure and stroke coordinator, the ventricular assist device coordinator, and the chairperson of the ethics committee, she has been notably vital to the establishment of a standalone heart failure clinic at the Frye Regional Medical Center. Beyond her primary responsibilities in her field, she frequently educates those in her community on such subjects as heart failure, stroke, and heart attack at local health fairs, festivals, the local senior citizen center, and Flemings Chapel Baptist Church. Fortunate to have discovered a niche in the field of practice of which she is passionate, Ms. Bumgarner is particularly proud of her selection among the Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina in 2021.

Prior to embarking upon her professional path, Ms. Bumgarner pursued an education at Lenoir-Rhyne University, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 2010. Presently pursuing a master’s degree in health care administration at the University of Phoenix, she further obtained her certification as a heart failure nurse in 2019 and plans to obtain her board certification in cardiology in 2022. As a testament to her exemplary efforts, she has been presented with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses by The DAISY Foundation, recognized as the Nurse of the Year by the Frye Regional Medical Center on two occasions and featured in various local publications, including the Hickory Daily Record, which honored her as the Notable Neighbor of the Quarter. In the coming years, Ms. Bumgarner hopes to continually progress in her field while helping to develop transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (EMCO) at her healthcare facility, and developing a cardiology boot camp for nurses who share her passion.
