JoAnn Theresa Hettinger, RN, Retired Registered Nurse, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing.

With decades of experience to her credit, Ms. Hettinger is currently retired, having excelled as the director of patient care and a registered nurse for Avera Weskota Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota between 2005 and 2021. She previously served as the director of nursing and a co-director for a nursing home in White Lake, South Dakota for 23 years. Prior to these positions, she began her career as a resident care nurse at a nursing home. Garnering her license as a practical nurse in 1970, Ms. Hettinger further supported her professional endeavors with an associate’s degree at Dakota Wesleyan University in 1982.

Attributing her success to the influential encouragement she received from her parents and her sister, Ms. Hettinger was renowned among her peers for her stellar work ethic and compassion, qualities that she has proudly passed on to her own daughters. Moreover, she fondly recalls having advanced in her career across multiple hospitals and nursing homes, especially after becoming designated as a practicing registered nurse upon obtaining her associate’s degree. An active volunteer within her community and church, she was also formerly associated with The Altar Society as a secretary. Looking toward the future, Ms. Hettinger hopes to enjoy her well-deserved retirement after a long and fulfilling career in the field of nursing.
