Tracey Reyes, Registered Nurse at Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in patient care.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Ms. Reyes earned certifications as a registered nurse, as a critical care nurse and in cardiac medicine and surgery. She currently provides superior service as a critical care nurse with Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital, which is reflected in her 2022 nomination as a Top Nurse Clinician. Her professional associations include the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Ms. Reyes’ responsibilities as a critical care nurse include providing direct patient care for the most critical patients in the hospital. She may have direct care of anywhere from one to three patients based on their acuity system, as many as three if those patients are beginning to be more stable and transitioning out of the intensive care unit (ICU) environment, and one patient if a patient needs bedside care continuously for over 12 hours.
As a career highlight, Ms. Reyes cites her duties following Hurricane Harvey in 2017, which hit the area hard and patients’ families joined them in the hospital since they had been flooded out of their homes; her unit was forced to operate at close to 150% capacity. She attended a patient with a head injury who required neurosurgery, accompanying him in a helicopter mid-storm to a neurotrauma center, where the patient received the help he needed.
In the coming years, Ms. Reyes intends to earn a master’s degree in nursing. As she moves along in her practice, it has been revealed to her the strengths that she has, one of which is educating the people behind her. She hopes to see newer nurses having the benefits of what she has learned during her time with Houston Methodist.
