Norma Avitua-Ovalle, Registered Nurse and Nurse Administrator at Methodist Healthcare System, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing administration.
After obtaining an Associate of Applied Science in nursing, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2014 and a Master of Business Administration in healthcare management in 2018 from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, where she is currently pursuing a PhD in business and leadership. She has earned licensure as a registered nurse, licensed vocational nurse, and a certification as a chief nursing officer by the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses. In addition, she served her country in the United States Army Reserves for 10 years, during which she was deployed in Operation Desert Storm, and received the Army Achievement Medal and numerous awards during her service.
After serving as a nurse assistant, LVN, and a current registered nurse in nursing she has devoted over 35 years to the nursing profession. Since 2000 Ms. Avitua-Ovalle has provided superior care as a registered nurse, nurse administrator and employer health coordinator with Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio. Since 2019 she has served as president of the San Antonio chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses and Secretary to Texas Nurse Association District 8. In her church community she serves as a catechist with the adult confirmation classes of St. Dominic Catholic Church. Ms. Avitua-Ovalle is also affiliated with the American Nurses Association, American Organization for Nursing Leadership, National Hispanic Health Foundation, SNOW Company Advocacy, International Association of Hispanic Nurse Faculty and National Society of Leadership and Success. Attributing her success to dedication and determination, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle also cites her passion for supporting her team and helping them achieve their goals. Soon, she intends to complete her PhD in in business and leadership and hopes to enter academia to help develop nursing curriculums in a focus specialty of nurse leadership for managers and executive leadership.
