She has been additionally active as a nurse practitioner operating within the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health since 2008. Previously, she served as a registered nurse with Kaiser Permanente for 11 years and Los Angeles Correctional Health for 10 years. Prior to her relocation to America in 1996, Dr. Osawe had worked as oncology nurse, a medical-surgical nurse, a trauma nurse and an obstetrics and gynecologist nurse in Nigeria.
Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Osawe pursued an education at California State University, Northridge, from which she obtained a bachelor’s degree. She subsequently earned a master’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles. She concluded her formal academic efforts at Purdue University Global in 2022, having graduated with a Doctor of Nursing Practice. Likewise, Dr. Osawe has been certified as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
In addition to her primary responsibilities, Dr. Osawe remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her field. She has been notably appointed as a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the Association of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (APMHNP) and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America (NANNNA). Furthermore, Dr. Osawe was recruited to work with the homeless population in California through homeless outreach mobile engagement teams during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Oswae was initially drawn to her profession after her experiences with a registered nurse during her childhood in Nigeria, whom she remembers as incredibly compassionate and caring. She has been likewise motivated by the advantages provided by her skill set, having been able to recognize her own struggles with depression through her nursing expertise. Among the highlights of her decades-spanning career, she remains exceptionally proud of her compassion for the homeless population, as many are neglected or marginalized as a result of their mental health struggles. Looking toward the future, Dr. Osawe hopes to impact the lives of others through her work in a practice clinic while advancing her presence in telehealth with the launch of Salvage Care.
