Since 2021, Ms. Smith has found much success as chief education and compliance officer at Premier Geriatric Solutions PLLC in Roanoke, where her responsibilities include designing, implementing and monitoring the processes by which the company will comply with all applicable laws and regulations. In addition, in what she considers to be a career highlight, she has been on contract as an author with Jones & Bartlett Learning, LLC, for whom she has compiled “Geriatric Notes,” a pocket guide serving as a practical and concise clinical resource for clinicians (physicians, NPs, PAs, nurses) and students. The book was featured on The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine’s (AMDA) website and app in 2022 and is now being used at universities across the United States  as well as in other places.

An avid participant in community affairs, Ms. Smith has served as a motivational Speaker for Rocky Mount Elementary and  Intrado Corporation and as a member of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads, Troutville and Rocky Mount, Virginia. Her professional memberships include the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association, American Medical Directors Association,  Long Term Care Nurses Association, The Gerontological Society of America and The American Assisted Living Nurses Association.

Ms. Smith attributes her success to her difficult childhood years. She learned how to speak at the age of two. She had to learn through mnemonics and acronyms and had to spend more time than the average student. Her struggles led her to become an advocate for education. Besides “Geriatric Notes,” Ms. Smith is also most proud of creating a national communication tool with the help and endorsement of the National Association of Health Care Assistants to improve the quality of care.

In the coming years, Ms. Smith’s goal is to create a collaborative team approach with all professionals in post-acute care. She aims to create a platform that gathers all the educational resources together on the platform for the team to be able to learn together, rather than separately.
