Michelle R. Reitz, ANP-BC, Nurse Practitioner at Washington University in St. Louis, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing advanced practice.
After initially obtaining a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau, Missouri in 2003, Ms. Reitz continued her education with a master’s degree as an adult nurse practitioner from Maryville University, Missouri in 2008. She has excelled as a nurse practitioner, an advanced practice registered nurse trained to assess patient needs, order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, diagnose disease, formulate and prescribe treatment plans.
Ms. Reitz provided superior care as an Intensive Care Unit registered nurse with Mercy Hospital from 2003 to 2009, a nurse practitioner in the trauma department with St. Louis University Hospital from 2009 to 2011, a nurse practitioner in the department of neurosurgery with St. Anthony’s Medical Center-Mercy Medical Center from 2011 to 2013, a nurse practitioner with the department of neurosurgery with St. Claire Hospital from 2013 to 2015 and a nurse practitioner with the department of neurosurgery with Washington University in St. Louis from 2015 to the present. She has garnered the Nursing of Excellence for Saint Louis Award from Saint Louis Magazine in 2018 and a Top Adult Nurse Practitioner Nurses Plaque from Today’s Nurse in 2022.
When Ms. Reitz was 13 years old, she thought she wanted to become a pediatrician, following the example of her own doctor, and her first job after high school was as a caregiver. As nursing presented more of a challenge, she decided she was up for the task. While she was working specifically with the spine surgeon at Washington University in St. Louis, she was inspired to go to the operating room and learn specific techniques. Ms. Reitz enjoys being able to be independent in taking care of her own patients and feeling like she can run her own practice within a practice.
