Title: Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner
Company: Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital
Location: Baltimore, Maryland, United States
Sondra B. Barker, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner at Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in urogynecology.
Since 2020, Ms. Barker has provided superior care as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) at Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. With St. Agnes, she helps develop the Woman’s Health Program in the specialty of urogynecology, promotes the medical management of urogynecology, helps patients navigate through the Overactive Bladder Program, helped develop an overactive bladder navigation program for Chesapeake Urology Associates and conducts sacral nerve stimulation. Prior to joining Ascension Saint Agnes, Ms. Barker worked at Chesapeake Urology Associates. She is a member of the American Urology Association (AUA) and Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates (SUNA).
Ms. Barker began her career in nursing as a Diploma Graduate Registered Nurse at Sewickley Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Moon Township, Pennsylvania in 1986. She thereupon obtained her bachelor’s degree in 2000 and a master’s degree in 2003, both in nursing, from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Ms. Barker is board-certified by the National Certification Corporation as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and licensed by the Maryland Board of Nursing and, in what she considers a career highlight, was recognized by the International Nurses Association as Top Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner of Baltimore in 2016.
Ms. Barker believes she is fortunate to have been guided by mentors like Dr. Conrad Duncan, who helped her grow her knowledge, challenging her to do what she can and giving her the opportunity to demonstrate her ideas. She took pride in developing the Overactive Bladder Navigation program for Chesapeake Urology Associates. It was so successful that she was invited to medical schools as a specialist in the area for the thesis defense of some students who were completing their nursing doctorates. In the coming years, Ms. Barker is hoping to be able to move minor medical procedures, such as IV sedation, to the office, in the hopes that patients will not have to go to the hospital for them.
