From 2005 to the present, Ms. Charles has prospered as a behavioral health nurse with Penn Medicine Princeton Health, Plainsboro, New Jersey and since 2012 with Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center, Flemington. As a behavioral health nurse, her responsibilities include caring for people of all ages experiencing mental illnesses or distress that include neurodevelopmental disorders, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, mood disorders, addiction, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, paranoia, and self-harm.
Ms. Charles obtained a Bachelor of Science in nursing at Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey, in 2004. She thereupon provided superior care as a registered medical and surgical nurse with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Rahway, from 2004 to 2006. She is widely recognized as an excellent care provider and patient advocate by employers and community associations, possessing outstanding observational and communication skills and superior accuracy in patient history, charting, and other documentation.
Attributing her success to the support and guidance of her former and current superiors, Ms. Charles considers her career highlight to be her outspokenness about effective mental health care, and she draws inspiration from her own history as an African American woman inspired by the people who spoke up in the past to fight racism and demand equal rights. In the coming years, Ms. Charles intends to study toward obtaining a master’s degree.
