Holding considerable expertise in emergency room and intensive care unit care, Mr. Luna spent the last five years working as a nurse practitioner before returning to work as a floor nurse to help on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic. He works as a registered nurse on a traveling assignment contract with Maxim Healthcare Services and travels to various hospitals as he is needed. While returning to this role is a step down professionally, Mr. Luna considers it to be the highlight of his career thus far, as it has allowed him to help so many people.
Having previously served as a nurse practitioner with Heart and Vascular Specialists of South Texas and a registered nurse with Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, Mr. Luna’s plans for the future include returning to a full-time hospital setting and completing a post-master’s nurse practitioner certification program in acute care and adult geriatrics. First embarking on his studies in the business track, he became captivated by anatomy, which inspired him to switch over to nursing. He joined the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where he was certified as a registered nurse in 2009 and obtained a master’s degree as a family nurse practitioner in 2015. Deeply passionate about his work, Mr. Luna credits much of his success to hard work, determination, dedication and the ability to keep moving forward. In order to keep abreast of developments in his field, he maintains professional affiliation with the Texas Nurses Association.
