Sung Duk Park, a retired nurse, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of healthcare.
Following more than four decades of excellence in her chosen field, Ms. Park retired from her position as a registered nurse at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, in 2014. Having originally joined the hospital in 1996, she specialized in surgical nursing and oncology. Previously, Ms. Park had served in a similar capacity at the Lincoln West Hospital for 15 years.
A dedicated community advocate, Ms. Park currently volunteers at O’Hare International Airport and her local Center for Seniors checking blood pressure and answering medical questions. She has also worked extensively with a variety of Asian American community organizations including the Korean Christian Medical Missionary Society, the Korean Traditional Artist Association, the Asian Human Service, the Chicago Vietnam Association and the Chicago Chinese Mutual Aid Association. Ms. Park has held leadership roles with the Korean Nurses Association of Midwest, the Korean Nurses Association of Midwest and the Korean American Association of Chicago.
Inspired to pursue a career in medicine after learning about Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, Ms. Park attended the College of Nursing of Kyungpook National University. She was listed among the most Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century in 2009, and as an outstanding nurse by the Korean American Nurse Association of Chicago. Furthermore, Ms. Park was bestowed with the President’s Volunteers Service Award and numerous accolades from the mayor of Chicago.
