Certified as orthopedic nurse, nursing assistant and perioperative nurse, Dr. Rodriguez-Leiva specializes in hand surgery, microsurgery, orthopedic trauma, miniature invasive procedures, joint reconstruction and arthroplasty and clinical research. Born and raised in Cuba, at 23-years-old he obtained a Doctor of Medicine in orthopedic surgery after completing a residency program at the University of Havana in 1991. Upon immigrating to the United States in 2003, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, cum laude, from Florida International University in 2008. Thereafter, he completed the Registered Nurse First Assistant Program in 2012 and subsequently earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Turabo University at Gurabo in 2018 and a post-master’s degree in acute care from Barry University in 2020. Presently, within his independent clinic, Dr. Rodriguez-Leiva serves patients four days a week and reserves the additional day to provide assistance in the emergency room.
Harboring a passion for the medical field from as early as 10 years old, Dr. Rodriguez-Leiva had always found great ease in studying topics in medicine. Throughout his career, he has maintained his affiliation with such organizations as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses, the American Nurses Association, the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses and the Golden Key International Honor Society. Moreover, he has authored six full-length original scientific publications and has spoken before the United States Congress in addition to over 20 scientific presentations and international conferences. For his achievements in the field, he is proud to have been a recipient of the National Innovation Award from the Cuban Academy of Sciences in 2003. In accounting for his standout success, Dr. Rodriguez-Leiva credits his unwavering love for his profession and his willingness to make sacrifices.
