Janice Miller Newman, a Registered Nurse and Retired Attorney at Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of health care.
Having accrued nearly four decades of inimitable expertise in nursing and over two decades as an attorney at law, Ms. Miller Newman garnered a laudable reputation for her work on behalf of both her patients and clients prior to her retirement in 2011. Having begun her career in law as a mental health advocate and staff attorney in the state of Louisiana, she later distinguished herself as an administrative law judge with the state Department of Health and Hospitals, through which she passed judgment in cases pertaining to Medicaid, Medicare and nursing, as well as other fields. Likewise, Ms. Miller Newman contributed prolifically in helping veterans secure treatment for a range of mental health disorders, including post-traumatic stress syndrome.
As a registered nurse, Ms. Miller Newman maintained involvement with a number of hospitals and health systems from 1978 until 1999, including the St. Jude Hospital and Gailor Clinic, Southeast Mental Health Center, Parkland Hospital and Optimal Home Health Care. Likewise, she found success as a nurse educator at the University of Tennessee, the Louisiana Department of Education and the East Baton Rouge School System, among others. Throughout this period, Ms. Miller Newman worked with senior citizens, young children and those suffering from substance abuse.
Ms. Miller Newman’s exemplary performance in the field was born of her academic journey, which began at Le Moyne College, whereupon she completed her studies as a nurse in 1974. Following this accomplishment, she attained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Tennessee College of Nursing in 1978, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence at the Southern University Law School in 1989. Well regarded for her subsequent work in legal service, Ms. Miller Newman was bestowed with a Pro Bono Award from the Tennessee State Bar Association and a Leadership Award from the Louisiana Association of Administrative Law Judges.
