In her youth, Ms. Ritchwood consistently cared for her grandmother, who suffered from epilepsy. She would take her to doctors’ appointments and was always intrigued by the work of the medical professionals, leading her to desire to take on a career in health care in her own right. Fulfilling her childhood goal, Ms. Ritchwood became a registered nurse by the Christ Hospital School of Nursing in 1989. In addition, she achieved a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from New Jersey University in 1996, a Master of Arts in healthcare administration from New Jersey City University in 1997 and an Associate’s degree in funeral service in 1999. For the past 30 years, Ms. Ritchwood has excelled at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell, where she has served as a staff nurse, hyperbaric nurse, assistant nurse, charge nurse and instructor. She gained initial experience at the Pocono Medical Center from 1989 to 1991.

Throughout the course of her illustrious career, Ms. Ritchwood recalls the most rewarding time of her career was responding to the September 11, 2001 terror attack in New York City. That morning, she took a train to the World Trade Center and immediately cared for a man who exited the building. She was able to speak to his wife over the phone and report his safety, which was a life-changing experience. Additionally, she helped care for those affected by the attack for 30 days. Today, Ms. Ritchwood is on the front lines in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic and is dedicated to keeping all of her patients healthy and safe. Certified in wound care, advanced burn life support, advanced life support, pediatric advanced life support and hyperbaric medicine, she has notably been named Charge Nurse of the Year. Presently, Ms. Ritchwood holds membership with the Association of Critical Care Nurses and the Wound Education Institute Alumni. Looking ahead, she aims to attain two more certifications in the field of diabetes.
