Linda Carol Hege, BSN, RN, Retired Nurse, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing.
Ms. Hege wanted to be a nurse all her life, as she recalls being as young as three years old playing nurse. In 1967, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lenoir Rhyne College and subsequently became certified in medical surgery, ED and CDE. She began her career in 1967 as a staff nurse with Forsyth Memorial Hospital, remaining with the hospital until 1994. During her tenure with Forsyth Memorial Hospital, she held the positions of assistant head nurse, nursing educational instructor, clinical specialist and associate director. Simultaneously, she had also been an instructor with the Forsyth County Heart Association in 1983. From 1988 to 2011, she was a member of the Special Operations Response Team and from 1989 to 2011, she was a member of the North Carolina Task Force National Disaster Medical Systems. In 1994, she served as a patient educator at CI Salem Family Practice until 2000. Additionally, from 1991 to 2011, she offered her expertise as a clinical instructor at Forsyth Technical Community College.
Now settled into her retirement, Ms. Hege has been a volunteer head nurse with the Shalom Project Clinic Remarkable 45 since 2011. Looking back on her illustrious career, she attributes her success to being well supported by her physicians and co-workers. As a testament to her legacy, Ms. Hege has received a National Disaster Medical System Award for Volunteering and was named Volunteer of the Year by Shalom Project. She is also listed in the first edition of Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America, the 15th edition of Who’s Who of American Women, the fourth and fifth edition of Who’s Who in American Nursing and the 72nd edition of Who’s Who in America.
