Jeffrey A. Willey, PhD, RN, CNS, CLNC, CNE, Director of the School of Nursing at Salisbury University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing education.
Since he was a child, Dr. Willey aspired to be a doctor. When it came time to pursue a formal education, he earned an Associate of Science from Metlife Science before attending Salisbury University. In 1985, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in medical laboratory studies. Through his studies, Dr. Willey discovered nursing, which offered a less demanding alternative to becoming a doctor. Deciding that it was a better fit for him, he proceeded to further his education at Salisbury University, earning a Master of Education in 1994 and a Bachelor of Science in Registered Nursing in 1996. Later, in 2000, Dr. Willey earned a Master of Science in cardiopulmonary nursing from the University of Delaware, going on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2013.
In 2004, Dr. Willey commenced his career as a clinical analyst at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He remained there for a number of years, becoming an independent business owner in 2009 after opening Focus Medical Legal Nurse Consulting LLC. During these years, from 2005 until 2010, Dr. Willey explored education as a faculty member at Salisbury University. Finding an unexpected passion for working with medical students, he continues to work at the university today. In 2010, Dr. Willey became an associate professor, as well as the director of the school of nursing.
An active member of his industry, Dr. Willey maintains affiliation with the National League for Nursing, the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Delaware Nursing Association and the American Nursing Association. Reflecting on his accomplishments, which include numerous awards from Salisbury University, Dr. Willey attributes his success to the never-ending support from his friends, family and colleagues. He feels lucky to be working with some of the smartest people in his industry, as their guidance is immensely appreciated. In the coming years, he hopes to continue working with future healthcare professionals. Endlessly passionate about his field, Dr. Willey will continue advocating for careers in medicine for as long as possible.
