Title: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Location: Pottstown, Pennsylvania, United States
Mary Ann Glocker, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric health.
While Ms. Glocker originally intended to become a teacher, it was an experience during high school where she got to help as a nursing aid that opened her to the idea of medical service. She saw that there were many opportunities to teach within hospitals and nursing programs and decided to dedicate her life to this endeavor. In this respect, Ms. Glocker earned a diploma from Philadelphia General Hospital in 1961 and continued her studies at the University of Pennsylvania to receive a BSN in 1964 thanks to receiving student aid. She later earned an MSN from the institution in 1986. She launched her career as a nurse with Philadelphia General Hospital and remained there until accepting a pediatric nurse practitioner position at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. She remained in this role until her retirement in 2015. Though retired, Ms. Glocker reflects that her greatest achievements include receiving the Champion of the Year Award from the Berks Visiting Nursing Association in 2012 and the countless lives she touched through her work.
While at Reading Hospital and Medical Center, Ms. Glocker contributed in myriad ways to benefit the children of Berks County. She was instrumental in creating two programs, the “Access to Care Committee,” and the Immunization Action Committee for Berks County. Due to her volunteer work, immunizations rates in her county were greatly improved. It is through her work that Hepatitis B immunizations are given to infants after birth at THRMC and state immunization cards are given to parents to keep. Additional accolades Ms. Glocker has received include winning the Pennsylvania Nurse Association District 2 Nursing Practice Award and a nomination for the Distinguished Nurse of the Year Award by NAPNAP. In her retirement, she endeavors to continue her philanthropic work, such as her involvement with the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities. In her career, she was recognized as a fellow and chapter secretary of the National Association Practitioners and Nurse Associates and with membership to the American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau.
