Nancy A. Pelletier, Retired Obstetrical and Gynecological Nurse and Educator at Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic Region, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements and leadership in women’s health.
Developing a nurturing kind of behavior early on in her life, Ms. Pelletier is retired, last serving the Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic Region in Woodbridge, Virginia, as the lead OBGYN nurse from 1991 to 2017. She began her professional career at Alexandria Hospital, serving as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in pediatrics from 1971 to 1972 and in medications from 1972 to 1973. A school nurse and teacher of health education with Alexandria City Public Schools from 1973 to 1976, she rejoined Alexandria Hospital as an LPN in postpartum and intensive care nursery from 1977 to 1984, a childbirth educator from 1978 to 1993, and nurse in postpartum and float pool from 1984 to 1993. During this time, Ms. Pelletier also served as an advisor to the Vocational Education Clubs of America in Washington in 1974 and the lead nurse with the OBGYN Associates of Northern Virginia from 1984 to 1991.
In preparation for her career, she attended the Alexandria Hospital School of Practical Nursing which she completed in 1971. She went on to become certified in health education through a government grant in 1973. Ms. Pelletier attended college at the Northern Virginia Community College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1984. Additionally, she is an LPN in the State of Virginia since 1971, a registered nurse in the State of Virginia since 1984 and a Lamaze certified childbirth educator since 1989. She is the author of the pamphlet, “A Nurse Discusses Your Cesarean Delivery” and the teaching tool “Test Your Pregnancy Knowledge.” During different points in her career, Ms. Pelletier was involved with the Nurses Association of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Society for Psychoprophylaxis in Obstetrics and Phi Theta Kappa, until she retired. A recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, she was named Nurse of the Year and received the Kaiser Woodbridge/Meade Johnson Award in 1997, as well as was named Health Care Employee/Nurse of Year by Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic Region in 2003. She was also selected for inclusion in the fifth edition of Who’s Who in American Nursing, as well as several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who of American Women.
