Wanting to be a nurse since she was 11 years old, Ms. Mashin began her professional career as an administrative assistant for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Washington in 1963, remaining in this role for three years before becoming the assistant to the managing director at the Aerospace Education Foundation from 1966 to 1974. She then served as executive assistant to the assistant executive director of the Air Force Association from 1974 to 1979, briefly working for a retail company before serving as assistant regional political director at the Office of the President-Elect from 1980 to 1981, confidential assistant to the director at the Office of Personnel Management from 1981 to 1983, and special assistant to the deputy director at the Office of Management and Budget from 1983 to 1986. Ms. Mashin served the Department of the Interior as director of international communications and a special assistant to the commissioner from 1986 to 1989, and then a consultant from 1989 to 1993. She was a registered nurse at Washington Hospital Center from 1993 to 2009, among other roles.

Prior to the start of her career, Ms. Mashin pursued a formal education at the University of Maryland, earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration and psychology in 1984. She then attended the Catholic University of America, where she attained a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1993. A certified realtor, Ms. Mashin is highly active in her local community. She also maintains involvement with the White House Volunteers of the Air Force Association, the United States Capitol Historical Society and the Auxiliary of the Salvation Army. A recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, she was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
