Betty Petree, Associate Director and Anesthesiology Nurse at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in healthcare.
With nearly 30 years of professional experience, Ms. Petree has excelled as the associate director of Copper Kettle Anesthesia Services and a nurse of anesthesiology with the North Carolina Baptist Hospital since 2005, having been the chief nurse of anesthetist outpatient surgery since 1990. In addition to her primary roles, she worked as the assistant director and a nurse of anesthesiology from 1997 to 2005, a clinical manager of pre-admission testing from 2012 to 2015 and the vice president of surgical services from 2013 to 2015. She is also the author of “Anesthesia for Kidney Transplantation” and “Thoracic Aortic Trauma.”
Ms. Petree was interested in the field from an early age, having been inspired by her older sister, who was an OB nurse. She was further encouraged by some nursing friends, who she observed in an operating room. She initially pursued an education at the Davis Hospital School of Nursing, where she was certified as a nurse anesthetist in 1970. She continued her studies with the North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, where she was certified as a registered nurse anesthetist. Moreover, Ms. Petree is a registered nurse in the state of North Carolina.
A respected voice in her areas of interest, Ms. Petree has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, the North Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the National Council for Behavioral Health. For her contributions to the field, she has been celebrated throughout her career. Ms. Petree was the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award, the Great North Carolina Nurses Award and the Clinical Practitioner Award.
