Blanche Madero, Retired Director of Ambulatory Nursing Services at Kaiser-Permanente Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in administration.

With more than 40 years of professional experience, Ms. Madero has been retired since 1999. Prior to her retirement, she was the director of ambulatory nursing services at Kaiser-Permanente Medical Center from 1988 to 1999, also serving as the assistant medical group administrator. Prior to obtaining these roles, she was acting director of nurses and the medical office of nursing from 1987 to 1988, having been assistant director since 1982 and supervising nurse instructor and practitioner since 1968. From 1968 to 1981, she was also a nurse-preceptor, and she was previously a float nurse from 1963 to 1968. Earlier in her career, she was a staff nurse in the medical-surgical ward and head of the nurse pediatric ward at Herrick Memorial Hospital from 1957 to 1963.

Ms. Madero was inspired to pursue a career in the field from an early age, having always had a desire to work with healing people. She was further encouraged by her sister, who played nurse with her as a child. She first pursued an education with Holy Names University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in nursing education in 1973. She continued her studies with the University of San Francisco, earning a Master of Arts in 1987. She has been licensed as a nurse practitioner.

A respected voice in her areas of interest, Ms. Madero has been affiliated with a number of organizations in her community. A consultant for the Veterans Administration Hospital, she is a former member of Sigma Theta Tau. She has served on the pastoral council of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where she also sings in the church choir. She has written articles to professional journals including on hypertension patient education for the American Nursing Journal, and she has served as a guest lecturer. For her contributions, she was given the Flagship Award by Kaiser Permanente.
