Kathryn Froiland, Clinical Nurse Educator at TESARO Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in oncology and nursing education.

In preparation for her career, Ms. Froiland attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1979. She accepted a position at the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics, where she worked for nearly a decade. She started as a staff nurse and rose to the rank of charge nurse, then station instructor, and eventually assistant head nurse before her departure in 1988. Ms. Froiland briefly served as an assistant head nurse at Methodist Hospital in Minneapolis, and transitioned to the Mayo Clinic Foundation in Rochester, Minnesota in 1989, where she provided her skills and expertise as a hospice nurse until 1991.

In 1991, Ms. Froiland accepted a position as a senior nursing instructor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She continued her academic pursuits, earning a Master of Science in nursing from the University of Texas in 1994. In 1995, she rose to the rank of senior wound ostomy continence nurse in 1995. In 2001, she became the program director of the wound ostomy continence nurse education program. Ms. Froiland remained at the center until 2003, when she started a new venture as an oncology clinical nurse educator at Glaxo Smith Kline, where she worked for more than a decade, until 2015. Upon departing from Glaxo Smith Kline, she joined as an oncology nurse educator at TESARO Inc., a position she holds presently.

Of her myriad honors, Ms. Froiland is most proud of her nomination for a recognition from MD Anderson. She was recognized in 2001 with an Excellence in Clinical Care Award from NurseWeek, and she was also named WOCN of the Year for the South Central Region of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing (WOCN) Society. In 2002, Ms. Froiland received a Distinguished Alumna Award from the University of Texas – Houston School of Nursing. She is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, the WOCN Society, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She cites Dr. Debbie Bolker, faculty at the University of Texas, and Beverly Hampton at MD Anderson, as mentors in her career.
