Title: Nursing Resource Development Director
Company: Health East Trust
Location: Allentown, Pennsylvania, United States
Josephine Ritz, Nursing Resource Development Director at Health East Trust, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of nursing education.
Though her parents did not originally want her to become a nurse due to the long hours and intense nature of the profession, Ms. Ritz became a nurse based on the advice of those in the profession. Personnel at the local hospital suggested if she became a nurse first, they would fund an education degree so Ms. Ritz could eventually become a teacher, just as her mother wanted. Pleased that she could synthesize her passions for healthcare and education, Ms. Ritz earned a diploma in nursing from the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 and subsequently served as the director of the organization. She further served the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing as the curriculum coordinator and the coordinator of fundamentals of nursing before assuming her current role as coordinator for the nursing resource development program.
Ms. Ritz earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cedar Crest College in 1961 and a Master of Science in education from Temple University in 1974. She encourages others to further their education and is proud of the students whom she taught as well as of her efforts to help pay for many students’ schooling via fundraising. Ms. Ritz holds a membership with the National Association of Fundraising Executives, the National League for Nursing, the Professional Nursing Council and the Allentown Hospital School Nursing Alumni Association. She has served on the advisory board of the Kutztown University Nursing Program, been a member of the board of associates for Lehigh Valley Hospital. As a testament to her success, Ms. Ritz is the recipient of the Nursing Ethics Award from the Allentown Hospital School Nursing and has been featured in the fourth and fifth editions of Who’s Who in American Nursing as well as the fourth edition of Who’s Who of American Women.
