Brenda Lee Bowens, Registered Nurse First Assistant at Bronson Battle Creek, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Nurses for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of medicine.
An expert in her field, Ms. Bowens pursued an education from Kellogg Community College, earning an Associate of Applied Science in 1974. She completed additional coursework at the University of Michigan and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1990. In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, Ms. Bowens has maintained affiliation with the American Nurses Association and the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses. She notes that obtaining her bachelor’s degree while working full-time and raising a family was a standout achievement.
Deciding on a career in nursing over a career in teaching, Ms. Bowens currently serves as an operating room nurse for Battle Creek Health Systems and a Registered Nurse First Assistant in the operating room at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. Earlier in her career, she gained valuable experiences through nursing roles with Battle Creek Health Systems as a staff nurse in the operating room from 1974 to 1987, as a staff nurse in the cardiac surgical unit at Ascension Borgess Hospital from 1987 to 1992, and as a clinical instructor at Kalamazoo Valley Community College from 1990 to 1991. During her first experience in the operating room, Ms. Bowens met Joanne Miller, a department director who would soon become her valuable mentor and encourage her to never stop learning. Eager to continue to grow and branch out in the field, she has been featured in the fourth and fifth editions of Who’s Who in American Nursing.
